Alan Stoddard. I’m a nobody trying to tell everybody about Somebody. Jesus Christ. He changed my life in 1988. I heard I could get a “do over” from God. The rest is HisStory. I am married to Jeana. My daughter is Briana. I love my family. I served 11 years in the military before joining God’s Army. My hobbies are reading, writing, and working out. Fishing is a close fourth on the list. Love it.
After serving in the Army I sensed a call to the ministry. Having been voted the least likely to pastor a church (not really), I went to seminary and was one of those who loved the experience. I graduated with an undergrad and Masters from Southwestern. I did a doctorate at Gordon-Conwell. I did my doctoral work on sermon-based small groups. I love preaching God’s word, but I pair it with a passion for disciple making in small groups. While at Gordon-Conwell I was privileged to study with the preaching dean, Dr. Haddon Robinson. He was my DMin mentor when I wrote my dissertation.
I have served churches in Germany, Texas and Arizona. I have multicultural experiences in European, Spanish and African-American cultures. The pastors who shaped me were Pastor Robert Springle (European Baptist Convention) and Elijah Mitchell (Missionary Baptists in Europe). I was privileged to serve as the Executive Pastor at Cornerstone Baptist Church, a large African-American Church. I was blessed to serve with Dr. Dwight McKissic and was mentored by the legendary Dr. Lloyd C. Blue.
I’m privileged to have served as the Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church, Ruidoso, for 8 great years.
Recently we have been led to partner up with Calvary Chapel Ruidoso where John Marshal is the Lead Pastor.
Serving God’s calling here in these mountains is a blessing. The people have a unique attitude here. Once you come to the mountains, you don’t want to leave. The community is family. Yet the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Some 90% of this community is unchurched. I’m committed to being planted here for the sake of the gospel.
